The Gan is a Large Family Day Care Home in Alameda and provides care for children 8 months to 5 years of age. We are open on
Monday-Thursday from 8:00am-5:00pm and Friday from 8:00am -2:00pm.
The Gan is a stimulating and enriching educational environment where children develop intellectually, emotionally and physically. Chidren learn social skills, build their self- confidence and gain the preliminary skills to explore and experience the world independently from their parents.
The Gan is a play-based, Reggio inspired, home based preschool.
Children use three rooms of a beautiful sun-lit home plus a large outdoor space. In addition, children enjoy daily outdoor nature walks and trips to three parks in walking distance.
Our indoor and outdoor play area overlook the Alameda lagoon which creates an ongoing calm, soothing atmosphere for the children.
Licensed by the State of California, we meet all federal and state requirements for childcare, including staff CPR and first aid training, TB tests, background checks and fingerprints.

“The Gan has been everything we wanted, and a whole lot more of what we didn’t know we needed, in a preschool! It has provided a lovely and peaceful environment for our 1 year old son, who has thrived since he started attending. Every day, he is so excited to arrive and even occasionally expresses interest to stay longer during pickup! The director is incredibly kind, organized and attentive, and ensures that the school follows the strictest guidelines in regard to our child’s health and well-being. Meal and nap/sleep times at home improved instantaneously since his attendance here. Our son enjoys several art and tactile experiences that he is introduced to in a progressive and intentional way. Judaism is woven throughout the days/weeks in an accessible manner, giving us a platform to introduce our faith to him in a way he can connect with. The Gan is so much more than a school and we couldn’t feel happier or more blessed to be a part of the community it fosters so effectively.” -Josh & Megan
As we prepare to reopen our school, we are taking the utmost care and consideration for the children, families, staff and general community’s health and safety. We are providing you with key information based on current CDC and Alameda County Health Department guidelines about updated policies and procedures in order to make the transition back to preschool as smooth as possible.
